Invented in the first decade of the last century, Goofus Glass was the name given to cheaply made, cold-painted, pressed glass.  Produced in great volume by a variety of manufacturers, goofus glass was a gaudy item often given  by businesses a premium.  Now widely sought by collectors, the best items are those which retain the paint, which often flaked off in normal use.
