Stretch Glass refers to a type of inexpensive art glass, or carnival glass, mass produced in American glass factories from approx. 1915 until 1940. During the manufacturing process, hot glass is removed from molds and then covered with a thin layer of iridescent metallic salts. The glass is then further workeed into more elaborate shapes, producing the distinctive “stretch marks” in the iridescent coating that give this type of glass its name.
